WILIAM GRIMES, LONDON. AN IMPOSING GEORGE I FAUX TORTOISESHELL AND CHINOISERIE DECORATED EIGHT-DAY LONGCASE CLOCK WITH 1 AND 1/4 SECOND ESCAPEMENT the 12" square brass dial with wheat-ear border and crowned chuerb spandrels enclosing a silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and Arabic minute markings; the matted centre with seconds dial, ringed winding holes, date aperture and blued steel hands fronting an eight-day five ringed-pillar latched movement with unusual 1 and 1/4 second anchor escapement and internal countwheel strike on a bell - the 163cm long pendulum with centre lenticle star and brass bob swinging in the base. The caddy-top case with three giltwood ball and spire finials, double blind fretwork freize, the full-length gilt edged trunk door and plinth base finely decorated in relief depicting landscape scenes with flower sprays and birds.
