HENRY MASSY, LONDON. A VERY FINE AND RARE QUEEN ANNE SILVER MOUNTED TORTOISESHELL VENEERED BRACKET CLOCK surmounted by a caddy top with silver 'Quare style' S scroll handle above a square case raised on pad feet, the hinged front door with applied silver escutcheons and pierced silver sound fret with red silk lining enclosing a 7" gilt brass dial with silver crown spandrels and silvered chapter ring surrounding a matted centre with calendar aperture above VI and mock pendulum aperture with signed silvered name plaque, Strike/Not strike lever at IX. The twin fusee movement with six finned knopped pillars and verge escapement striking the hours on a bell and pull repeating the quarters on a nest of five bells - fine engraved and signed backplate with pierced and engraved apron.

Henry Massey (Massy) was the son of a French Protestant Huguenot watchmaker, he was made a brother in the Clockmakers’ Company in 1692. He is recorded as marrying Anne Brissett in 1694 and continued to work until at least 1704 when it is presumed he died.
