A MID 18TH CENTURY OAK AND WALNUT CROSSBANDED AUTOMATON LONGCASE CLOCK the arched top hood with blind fretwork frieze above an ogee moulded door enclosed by turned quarter columns above a scallop-shaped full-length trunk door with canted corners on a matching box base raised on triple sides ogee shaped bracket feet. The 13" brass arched dial with engraved wheat-ear border, mask head Rococo spandrels and signed Roman chapter ring with inner quarter markings enclosing a fine cut engraved matted centre with ringed winding holes, subsidiary seconds dial and blued steel hands beneath a painted mask face to the arch with automaton rolling eyes. The 8-day movement with finned baluster pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on a steel bell - the swinging anchor activating the automaton eyes.
