GEORGE ETHERINGTON, LONDON. A WILLIAM AND MARY BURR WALNUT MONTH DURATION LONGCASE CLOCK the hood having a caddy top surmounted by three brass ball finials above a pierced frieze sound fret and glazed door with attached barley twist columns on a slender trunk with a 43" D-moulded door and brass-framed lenticle on crossbanded box base raised on bun feet. The 12" square brass dial with foliate engraved border between gilt cherub head spandrels and silvered chapter ring surrounding a matted and engraved centre with calendar aperture and subsidiary seconds dial fronting a five-pillar weight driven month duration movement with bolt and shutter maintaining power and outside countwheel striking the hours on a bell - comes with original brass cased weights and pendulum.

George Etherington was an apprentice to Robert Rooksby and was free of the clockmaker's company in Dec 1684. He became assistant in 1701 warden in 1706 and master in 1709. A very fine maker.
