THOMAS KNIFTON, LONDON. A MID 17TH CENTURY BRASS LANTERN CLOCK WITH ALARM DIAL strapped bell and five finials over three pierced dolphin frets, signed 'Thomas Knifton in Lothbury, Londini' over a silvered Roman chapter ring with stylised fleur-de-lys half hour markers and an inner quarter hour track, the tulip engraved centre set with a silvered Arabic alarm dial, the weight driven movement with a balance wheel verge escapement striking on a bell.
39.5cm high
The clock appears to have been cleaned in the past, but it now needs a service. The movement is original to the frame and dial. The bell and straps are also original. The movement is complete, except that the alarm mechanism is missing from the back plate. The escapement has probably been replaced, and if so, it has been done well.
