JEAN EUGENE ROBERT-HOUDIN, PARIS. A RARE LATE 19TH CENTURY ORMOLU AND PATINATED BRONZE MYSTERY CLOCK with gilt bezel enclosing a circular glass Roman dial signed "ROBERT-HOUDIN PARIS" and fitted with a single arrow hand above a vase-shaped patinated bronze stand with applied ormolu putti and scrollwork on a scrolled base, the spring-driven eight-day movement with silk suspension striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, standing on a gilt moulded plinth.
35cm high (not including gilt plinth)
There are no cracks or chips to the dial, and the case is dirty with minor losses to the gilding. The movement is fully wound and ticking, but the linkage to the dial doesn't seem to be connected, so the hand isn't moving. The striking train is also fully wound but not striking. Will require attention. Extra images have been uploaded.
