EARDLEY NORTON, LONDON, A LATE 18TH CENTURY MAHOGANY AND ORMOLU VERGE BRACKET CLOCK the bell top caddy case with brass handle above pierced gilt frets and pineapple finials, the brass dial with silvered chapter ring and polished centre signed Eardley Norton, London, with concentric calendar, strike/silent dial to the arch, flanked by foliate spandrels, the twin-fusee verge movement with engraved backplate, the case with applied gilt mounts, raised on gilt brass scroll feet.
36.5cm wide, 24cm deep, 63cm high
The pediment has two filled holes and would have originally had an ormolu mount. There is a small piece of veneer missing from the top left front corner of the case, and there are minor shrinkage splits in the veneer. The mask behind the glazed door has had some repairs. The silvering on the chaptering has been discoloured. The movement is original to the case and the dial, featuring its original verge escapement and striking on the correct hours. The movement is complete, but it isn't ticking, and it is dirty and will require a service.
