A HONG KONG PLAGUE MEDAL 1894 awarded to Private A.Herbert, S.L.I. The obverse depicts male and female figures caring to a sick man the left warding off the figure of death. Two Chinese characters 'Hong Kong'. The reverse inscription ' Presented by the Hong Kong Community for Services Rendered During the Plague of 1894'. Suspended from a scarlett ribbon with yellow edge and two yellow lines down the centre. The medal was issued in silver to the ratings and in gold to officers. Weight 29.6g.
