A MID 19TH CENTURY EUROPEAN DARNING SAMPLER unusual with a mix of darning, woolwork, beadwork, with floral border, eight large darns, and a central woolwork panel featuring either Swiss, German or Austrian men wearing lederhosen, feathers in their caps, white beadwork on their shirts, a large snow-capped mountain in the background, and a woolwork band near to the bottom embroidered in beadwork, “Par Clemence Cools, 1861”, the inlaid wood frame encased in glass, not touching the sampler.
