A VERY RARE 19TH CENTURY TELESCOPE CANE this exact cane illustrated on p.112 of cane specialists Coradeschi & Lamberti's book 'Bastoni dall'essenziale allo stupefacente' ('Sticks from the essential to the amazing') catalogued as cane 138, a "Captain's spyglass cane" with bone grip, brass end cap and bamboo encased shaft that unscrews halfway up to release an unsigned single draw telescope with excellent optics. For similar examples, see p. 101 of Catherine Dyke's 'Cane Curiosa'.
