THOMAS BROWN, PORTSMOUTH A VERY RARE GEORGE III DAY AND NIGHT LONGCASE CLOCK the Mudge style figured mahogany case surmounted by a brass ball finial on a long concave-sided block above an arched hood with a moulded glazed door on a slender trunk having a moulded edge door and raised panel box base. The highly unusual 12" brass arched dial with gilt urn spandrels and silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and Arabic minutes surrounding a matted centre with a rotating disc engraved with a sun and moon and hour pointers showing day and night time; the arch with calendar dial fronting a large eight-day five pillar movement with anchor escapement striking the hours on a bell 228cm high to the top of the final - brass cased weights and pendulum
