CLAUDIUS DE CHESNE (1693-1730) AN EARLY 18TH CENTURY EBONY AND GILT BRASS MOUNTED EIGHT-DAY VERGE BRACKET CLOCK WITH PULL QUARTER REPEAT the ebony veneered case with fret cut mounts and substantial folding handle, enclosing a 7-inch square gilt brass dial with engraved silvered Roman chaptering and outside Arabic minute markers, the matted centre, finely cut blued steel hands, with mock pendulum and date aperture fronting an oversized eight-day fusee movement with engraved backplate, verge escapement and hourly bell strike: with pull quarter hour repeat on a series of six bells.
