A RARE AND FINE EARLY 19TH CENTURY EIGHT DAY MARINE CHRONOMETER WITH UNIQUE SPRUNG BOWL DESIGN the mahogany brass bound three-tier box with original label enclosing a brass gimballed bowl supported on a rare shock absorber nickel sprung gimbal, the underside of the bowl fitted with a sprung winding arbour cover engraved 'Wind up to the Left hand Once A Week.' The 4 1/2" signed silvered dial with Roman and Arabic numerals surrounding subsidiary seconds dial and power reserve fronting a chain-driven fusee movement with maintaining power, Earnshaw type detent escapement with cut and compensated bimetallic balance, diamond endstone and helical spring, the spring barrel is cut with six slots exposing the edges of the spring.
