A 19TH CENTURY TWO-DAY MARINE CHRONOMETER The three tier mahogany brass bound box enclsoing a lacquered brass gimballed case with 3 3/8" signed and numbered silvered dial, the Roman numerals surrounding two subsidiary dials for power reserve and seconds, fronting a signed chain fusee movement with spotted plates united by four tapering pillars, the freesprung balance with jewelled endstone and large cut and compensated bimetallic balance to the Earnshaw type spring detent escapement with maintaining power, the whole protected by a typical inner dust cover secured by bayonet fittings and with X-form blued steel spring to the underside, a tipsy winding key in the upper left hand corner.

The case is original to the chronometer, and the key also looks original; however, the screw-off brass bezel has a different-coloured lacquer from the case. The silvering on the dial is slightly discoloured; the hands are original; the movement has its original dust cover; and the movement does tick but will require service.
