A SMALL SIZE MID 19TH CENTURY BRASS SEXTANT OF HISTORIC IMPORTANCE SIGNED CRICHTON & SON, LONDON the sextant with hinged filters and interchangeable lenses fitted in the original mahogany case, the vernier arm is signed 'B.J.H. Adamson R.N', box measures 23cm wide - Bryan John Huthwaite Adamson was a lieutenant in the Royal Navy who commanded HMS Wasp. On September 10th 1887 he set sail for Singapore and was never seen again. The Duke of Northumberland had a drinking fountain erected in his honour on Beverly Terrace, Cullercoats, North Tyneside.
