Claudius du Chesne came to London from Paris circa 1690 and was Free of the Clockmakers' Company from 1693 to 1730. He was a well-respected maker who made a number of complicated astronomical and musical clocks. His work is always of an extremely high standard.
The clock is in unrestored condition. The case is missing the back door and the brass band across the bottom plinth. All the gilt brass and engraved sound frets are complete and original, the movement is original to the case and dial. The chapter rings have been chrome plated rather than silvered, the hands look to be original. The movement although dirty is complete with original verge escapement will run when wound but will require a clean and service. The pendulum is also original. One of the rear feet is missing.
